UCL Research Study

Minds in Motion
EEG sessions

A study at UCL PEARL, led by Professor Hugo Spiers and Dr Fiona Zisch, University College London. This page is for the EEG strand, which involves two visits and has extra requirements.

  • Visit 1 One individual session Between 9th–14th or 18th–23rd September · about 90 minutes, just you
  • Visit 2 One group session Between 15th–17th September · about 2 hours, with other participants
  • Where UCL PEARL, Dagenham District line to Dagenham East
  • Compensation £60 Paid after your second session
  • Equipment EEG cap and eye-tracker Which is why there are extra requirements below
Set aside about 15 minutes. You will book both visits now, and there is a short questionnaire to complete before your place is confirmed.
There are only 32 places, and you must attend both visits. Please book only if you are confident you can make both dates.
Please read the information sheet before continuing. Everything about the session, your data and your rights.

A few checks

The EEG cap and eye-tracker put some practical limits on who we can record. Nothing here is sent to us.

A note on hair and glasses. EEG sensors have to touch the scalp, and the eye-tracker cannot see through glasses. Today's equipment works poorly with thick, braided, locked or covered hair, and there is no good workaround we can offer on the day. That is a limitation of the equipment, not of you, and it is one the field is actively trying to fix. If you are unsure whether any of the questions below apply to you, please email james.moultrie.25@ucl.ac.uk rather than ruling yourself out — and do consider the group-only sessions, which have none of these requirements.

Thank you for your interest.

Based on your answers we are not able to offer you a place in this particular session. This is only about the practical requirements of this one study — it says nothing about you, and it does not affect any other UCL research you may want to take part in.

If you think this is a mistake, or you would like to ask about it, email us at [PLACEHOLDER: study email address].
